Sunday Dinner with the Vera Ramon family

Today after church we were saying goodbye to everyone.  Hermana Virginia Ramon asked us when we were going to come to her home.  We had been there a couple of months ago with the young elders for Family Home Evening.  She invited us to come home with her from church and have some traditional Ecuadorian food with her 3 girls Hanna, Salome and Abigail.  Brother Vera, her husband is currently in SLC working with his brother in law painting and putting up Christmas decorations.  He will be home in a few weeks.

Here we are enjoying the meal.  They have a little restaurant in their home on Friday and Saturday where they prepare lunch for their neighbors.  They used to have a restaurant in the city but it didn't work out.

Rice cooked in a pressure cooker with peas.

Calf foot soup with leeks, garlic and large kernels of white corn in a milk sauce with blended peanuts.  Dad ate a few spoonfuls and I ate all of mine just to be socialable.

The drinks were made out of tree tomatoes also known as tamarillos.  It is a very common fruit in Ecuador.  They boil the fruit, peel it, and blend it  up the innards with sugar, water and a little vanilla.  We were worried about the water they used in it.  Hope it was bottled water but so far we're feeling good!!  That's one of the hazards of being a missionary when you eat at member's homes.

A beet salad that was really good with a little vinegar lemon dressing.
A groupie picture after dinner.  Hanna, the youngest daughter turned 12 this week and they served us a piece of her birthday cake while we were waiting for dinner to cook.  The other 2 girls are 17 and 19 years old and very sweet.
A beautiful family.  It's hard to tell which one is Virginia, the mother!

The name of the area they live in is Guapulo.  There is artwork all over.  This is the road where we caught a taxi home!  A fun Sunday memory!  Dinner Ecuadorian style.  Now let's hope our stomachs agree!!
